Immediately after graduation from Georgia Tech, Ron was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy and was selected by Admiral Rickover for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. After completing Naval Nuclear Propulsion School in Orlando, Florida, and Saratoga Springs, New York, Ron served aboard the U.S.S. Ohio, a nuclear submarine stationed in Bangor, Washington, from 1985 through 1989.

During his time in the Navy, Ron also spent brief periods of time aboard the U.S.S. Sturgeon and was stationed in what was then West Germany as part of a foreign naval officer exchange program. Ron’s final duty station in the Navy was at the Nuclear Prototype Training Unit in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Ron served as the officer responsible for various experimental, testing, and training programs.

After resigning his commission in 1991, Ron attended the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law. While at UCLA, Ron was selected for the UCLA Law Review and rose to the position of Managing Editor.  Throughout his legal education, Ron clerked at Freilich, Hornbaker & Rosen, a prominent Los Angeles patent and intellectual property law firm.  Ron returned to Las Vegas and passed the Nevada Bar in 1994. He has concentrated his practice principally in the areas of real estate, finance, and corporate law, but is also active in many areas of administrative law, including state and local licensing.

In April 1996, Ron and three other attorneys founded the law firm of James, Driggs & Walch, which has since grown to over forty attorneys and has become Holley Driggs Walch Fine Wray Puzey & Thompson. Ron’s practice is concentrated in the areas of administrative law and general business matters, including real estate transactions, business entities formation, and other commercial issues. Ron is the firm’s Managing Shareholder.

Mr. Thompson received a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1984 and his Juris Doctor in May 1994 from UCLA, graduating in the top ten percent of his class.  While attending Georgia Tech, Ron was selected as a Harry S.
